AVL . Automated Vehicle Location

The Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) mapping program uses global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) technologies to track agency vehicles. Mobile AVL displays officer position, assigned event, and the status of other responding units, all in real-time. In the station, AVL can also track Phase II wireless E911 calls on the same map as responding units. AVL integrates with CAD for reverse geo-coding and unit recommendation according to proximity. Additionally, AVL can play back events, such as a pursuit. AVL increases officer safety so no one is lost.
